Shave/razor bumps are skin inflammation near the hair follicle. This happens when some of the skin is disrupted by the use of a razor. Keeping the skin exfoliated and smooth can help prevent razor bumps after shaving. Always make sure to wet the skin completely and use a fresh razor, ideally with multiple blades. Shave with short strokes in the direction of the hair growth and use a shaving product such as a shaving bar, cream or gel. After shaving, moisturize the skin right away. For people with coarse hair, try a razorless hair cream which is sold in local stores or on amazon. When razor bumps get inflamed and combine with bacterial overgrowth or ingrown hairs, you can get a pimple outbreak in the area called folliculitis. Salicylic acid cleansers can be helpful if this occurs.
