Marius Chukwurah, M.D.

Board-Certified Internist; Cardiology Fellow

Dr. Marius Chukwurah also known on social media as “Dr. Mazi” is a Nigerian-American physician from Maryland. He is a board-certified internist that completed his internal medicine training at Duke and is currently a cardiology fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He earned his BS in biology from UMBC in 2014 and obtained his medical degree from the Howard University College of Medicine in 2018. He pursued a career in medicine because of his calling to serve others in conjunction with his love for the science of the human body. His parents’ sacrifices for him to receive an education along with his siblings serve as his daily motivation.

Over the course of his educational and professional career, he has found his passion in and prioritized mentorship and advancement of minorities in medicine, community outreach, education, and patient advocacy. Thus, he has been intentional with his extracurricular involvement with activities that align with his passions such as serving on the admissions committee at his medical school to assist in recruitment of minorities in medicine; serving as a regional director of the Student National Medical Association to support underrepresented pre-medical and medical students; serving as president of the Duke Minority Housestaff Association; and participating in numerous speaking engagements centered on patient education. One of his favorite quotes is “If you can’t pay it back, pay it forward”.
